Get Involved

RMYA values strongly the role our volunteers play in our organization and reaches out extensively to the community to recruit a wide range of volunteers. Our volunteers come from various places, including interns and practicum students from local universities and colleges; church groups, civic clubs, business organizations and other groups. RMYA has approximately 300-400 core volunteers – 100 individuals and about 30 groups – who volunteer on a regular basis. We have approximately 50 individual volunteers that serve as mentors or tutors or participate in a wide variety of activities with our youth, including many different life skills classes.

Volunteering at RMYA is an opportunity for you to change the day in the life of a child and give them something to look forward to. Our youth need to engage in positive activities and have new experiences to help promote future success. They can do that through the rapport you build with them while volunteering. We need creative, active, and optimistic volunteers who can share their enthusiasm for life with our children. You may do this as an individual or get your group involved. All volunteers must be at least 18 years of age, pass a criminal history check, and pass a drug screening.

Board Membership

The RMYA Board of Directors is a volunteer, oversight and fundraising board with approximately thirty members. The board sets the standard for quality programming, exercises fiscal oversight, and establishes the strategic direction of the agency in an effort to pave the way for successful and productive futures in the lives of the children we serve. Board members are expected to contribute time and money to RMYA as well as be ambassadors for the agency in the community. Board meetings are held on the fourth Monday of the month, ten times per year. If you are interested in serving on the RMYA Board of Directors, please contact CEO Bill Wilkinson at 210-340-8077.

Sponsor a Kids’ Activity

The children in our care deserve a “normal” childhood. But they haven’t had much experience enjoying the fun parts of childhood like bowling, mini-golf, the zoo, Fiesta Texas, Sea World, a local restaurant, a trampoline park, inflatable playhouse, summer camps, movie theatres, local festivals, a picnic at a park, laser tag, etc. Please consider donating money or tickets for residents to attend these activities or invite a group of children to attend an activity with your group. Please contact Katie Stroup, our Special Events Coordinator, for further information on planning an off-campus activity at 830-816-2425 or email
