Who benefits from my donation?

You do AND we do, too! All donations are tax deductible and all proceeds benefit RMYA programs and children.

What do you need?

We need good quality and gently used items such as:
Sofas, dining tables, chairs, bedroom sets, entertainment centers, desks, coffee tables, easy chairs, futons, lamps, and paintings
Designers Clothes & Shoes
Clothing (Men, Women and Children) – all sizes
Shoes & Accessories
DVDs/VHS tapes & CDs
RMYA Accepts Cars and Trucks


  • Wash or dry clean clothing.
  • Include all pieces and parts to children’s games and toys.


  • Leave items unattended outside a collection center.
  • Donate broken or soiled items
  • Give items that have been recalled, banned, or do not meet current safety standards. For more information about questionable items, visit the Consumer Product Safety Commission

What items do you NOT accept?

  • Building materials
  • Encyclopedias
  • Mattresses and box springs
  • Couches and chairs which are torn, soiled or otherwise damaged.
  • Paint and chemicals of any kind
  • CPSC recalled items: Infant furniture, car seats, exercise equipment, baby cribs, strollers, carriages, playpens, items containing lead or phthalates.
  • Computers/printers/fax/copiers
  • Phones/cells
  • Broken Items

Donations are accepted Tuesday-Saturday from 9:30 AM- 5:00 PM in the Thrift Shop at 3103 West Ave.

FAQ’s about Volunteering at The Thrift Shop

Help we need

We welcome individuals, church groups, civic clubs, and any other organization to volunteer for just a few hours or to help with an ongoing project. RMYA firmly believes that community service and volunteers are essential to providing quality services to the children we care for.We need volunteers to accept, sort and distribute donations. We also need help organizing, cleaning and restocking the shop.Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years of age, must pass a criminal history check, and must pass a drug screening.

We welcome volunteers from 9:30 AM – 5:00 PM Monday-Saturday

How to sign up

Call the Director of the Thrift Shop to set up a meeting. You will be able to come in for an initial interview to complete a volunteer application and get a tour of our campus. Your second meeting will include an orientation and some paperwork. During orientation the policies and procedures of our programs and volunteer rules and responsibilities will be explained. For more Info call 210-340-0811.RMYA values strongly the role our volunteers play in our organization and reaches out extensively to the community to recruit a wide range of volunteers. Our volunteers come from various places, including interns and practicum students from local universities and colleges; church groups, civic clubs, business organizations and other groups. RMYA has approximately 300-400 core volunteers – 100 individuals and about 30 groups – who volunteer on a regular basis. We have approximately 50 individual volunteers that serve as mentors or tutors or participate in a wide variety of activities with our youth, including many different life skills classes.Volunteering at RMYA is an opportunity for you to change the day in the life of a child and give them something to look forward to. Our youth need to engage in positive activities and have new experiences to help promote future success. They can do that by the rapport you build with them while volunteering. We need creative, active and optimistic volunteers that can share their enthusiasm for life with our children.
